Anna King – substitute teacher growing up in Vancouver, Anna sang in choirs and studied classical piano. After studying piano and harpsichord at UBC, she went on to graduate studies in harpsichord at the University of Toronto. During the eleven years she lived in Toronto, she taught piano privately, freelanced as a harpsichordist, and accompanied local choirs including the Mississauga Children's Choir.
She discovered Music Together® through a friend after the birth of her son. Fascinated with watching his musical development, Anna found the information and support she was searching for in Music Together's exciting music and research. She whole-heartedly believes in the Music Together® philosophy and program: all children are musical; therefore, all children can achieve basic music competence; modeling of parents and other primary caregivers is essential to a child's musical growth; this growth is best achieved in a playful, musically rich, and non-performance-oriented learning enviroment. She became a registered Music Together teacher in the summer of 2006 and started Music Together Phoenix Song same year , which she ran until August 2010. Anna was awarded Music Together® Certification Level I status in November 2008, having demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. The award was granted by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, Kenneth K. Guilmartin, Founder/Director.
She is happy to be back in her hometown, and is thrilled to be teaching Music Together®. It is the perfect blend of her two great joys - children and music. She holds a Masters degree in historical performance, a Bachelor degree in music, is a member of the BC registered music teacher's association (BCRMTA), and is a certified Music Together® teacher. She is having fun learning guitar, recorder and mountain dulcimer
